John Wood and Paul Harrison: Nothing Special

John Wood and Paul Harrison's new DVD - 'Nothing Special' - is launched tomorrow night at Carroll/Fletcher gallery. It's co-published by LUX and Carroll/Fletcher and includes a selection of video work from 1993-2011.

The DVD also contains a number of extras, including my video interview with the duo made for TateShots in 2008, which focuses on their series Twenty-Six (Drawing and Falling Things) 2001.

I'd been a fan of Harrison and Wood's work ever since seeing their exhibition at the John Hansard Gallery back in 1999, so it was really quite astonishing to visit them in their studio and hear the stories behind the work- and it's a bit of an honour to see the resulting film on DVD.

'Nothing Special' can be purchased here for £20.

12 From No10 at Whitechapel Art Gallery

Ada Lovelace (1815–1852) Mathematician; daughter of Lord Byron 1836 by Margaret Carpenter (1793–1872) - © Crown Copyright: UK Government Art Collection

The Whitechapel Gallery is hosting a series of exhibitions featuring work from the Government Art Collection. The latest instalment sees work (including Margaret Carpenter's portrait of Ada Lovelace) taken from the walls of 10 Downing Street, and was selected by a group of non-political staff there. The exhibition includes a film I made of the process, giving a glimpse inside No10 at the art and people within.

Jeremy Deller at the Hayward Gallery

Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller's new exhibition 'Joy In People' opened last week at the Hayward Gallery in London. Now you can join Jeremy for a cup of tea at Valerie's Cafe, hide out in his parents' downstairs loo and meet his melancholic friends in this film made specially for the Art Fund

A sneak peek at new work for the Fourth Plinth

Last week I went to AB Art Foundry in East London where the latest sculpture for Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth has been cast in bronze.

It's the work of Berlin/London based duo Elmgreen & Dragset, and will be revealed in full on 23rd February.
I caught up with them in AB's tea room and watched them inspect the work as the finishing touches were applied.

First Look: Kusama at Tate Modern

On Tuesday night I attended the opening of Yayoi Kusama's new exhibition at Tate Modern, and asked guests what they thought about the work of one of the world's most intriguing living artists. Yinka Shonibare, Wolfgang Tillmans and Bob Geldof all stopped for a chat, and we joined the throng as the lady herself greeted her adoring VIPs. The result is this film produced by Tate Media:

Ori Gersht: This Storm is What We Call Progress

Here are two films I made about the Israeli artist Ori Gersht, coinciding with his first exhibition at the Imperial War Museum London.
Working in photography and film, Gersht deals with the trauma of war and conflict in a way that is extraordinarily sensitive, and often seductive.
The films are two versions of the same interview. The longer version covers three projects represented in the exhibition: Chasing Good Fortune, Will You Dance For Me and Evaders, whilst the shorter film, with a little more detail on Evaders, was made for the Art Fund, who have a particular interest in that work.

The film was commissioned jointly by Photoworks and Art Fund.

It is also available to view here: http://randomacts.channel4.com/#view/104

Hilary Lloyd will be presenting a special version of her 2010 work 'Sailor', on the night of Friday, December 16.

Jarvis Cocker goes back to school

Pulp's Jarvis Cocker returns to his old school to take assembly in this film made for Faber and Faber, and shown on guardian.co.uk.

As well as dispensing his own brand of wit and wisdom, Jarvis sings some songs (including the first one he ever wrote), and returns a pile of (very) overdue library books. His acoustic version of 'Babies' is a particular delight.

The film was made to mark the release of Jarvis's book of selected lyrics, 'Mother, Brother, Lover.'

Definitely no robots - How Vitsœ is made

Vitsœ (manufacturers of the legendary Dieter Rams-designed 606 shelving systeminvited me to make a film that goes behind the scenes of their Camden workshop.

As well as seeing (and hearing) the machinery used to manufacture and pack the system, we spoke to some of the individuals who put their name to each package.
